Measurement

An exciting start to our unit on measurement... The children created their own footprints to use as a tool to measure objects around the classroom. They reflected and noticed  how varied their results came out. They repeated this exercise using measuring tapes and meter sticks to see how many inches each object was. Consistent results made for very interesting discussions on how accuracy and precision are crucial to measurement.

As we continue into our unit on measurement, we explore the concept of estimation . For this particular exercise, the Diamond Fireballs compared their estimation of the length of a gummy worm to actual measured results. Then, they guessed how many centimeters long the worm could be stretched and compared this to the results that they got using a ruler, meter stick, or measuring tape.
