Information Writing - Making Sushi

As a provocation for information writing and kick off for our new Unit, Sustainable Production & Consumption, the Diamond Fireballs did a SEE -THINK - WONDER as they observed different ingredients and tools to make vegetable sushi. After a quick teacher demonstration, students had a chance to make their own sushi rolls. They were then tasked to write a step by step procedural piece on HOW TO MAKE SUSHI...

Vegetable Sushi

Ingredients:
Steamed Rice
Rice Vinegar Mixture
Carrot (peeled & cut into strips)
Jicama (peeled & cut into strips)
Cucumber (peeled & cut into strips)
Nori Sheets
Bamboo Roller
Water

Procedure created by the Diamond Fireballs:
First, make sure your hands are clean. Next, prepare the ingredients that you need. These are nori, steamed rice, rice vinegar, vegetables, and water. Nori is seaweed. Pour rice vinegar into rice and mix it in with a cutting action. Then,  put the nori on the bamboo roller with the rough side down. After, put the rice on the nori and flatten with your fingers. Line up the vegetables on the rice. After that, start to roll the sushi.  Finally, use your fingers to seal the sushi roll with your fingers. Then, slice and eat.

Rice Vinegar Mixture
1/2 cup Rice Vinegar
4 Tablespoons Sugar
1 teaspoon Salt
Bring rice vinegar to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat. Add sugar and salt and stir until dissolved. Allow to cool to room temperature.
